THE CHOSEN

Buencamino does foreign affairs analysis for Action for Economic Reforms. This article was published in newspaper Today, February 15, 2005, p.11.

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last  and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.” – H.L. Mencken (1880-1956)

Way back in 2000, Bush said, “‘I feel like God wants me to run for President. I can’t explain it, but I sense my country is going to need me… I know it won’t be easy on me or my family, but God wants me to do it.”

Liberals say Bush won in 2000 because the US Supreme Court overturnedthe popular vote. However, Gen. William J. Boykin, God’s personal military spokesman, dismissed that allegation. He said, “George Bush was not elected by a majority of the voters in the United States. He was appointed by God.” Indeed he was. The governor of Florida and the US Supreme Court signed Bush’s appointment papers on God’s behalf. Mencken never dreamed it would be God, not plain folks, who would put the village idiot in the White House.

Last November 2004, God extended Bush’s appointment for another four years. This time, liberals insist, it was the governor of Ohio who signed for Him. Be that as it may, 59 million Americans may have helped push Him into doing it again.  Investigative journalist Greg Palast seemed to think so.

He reported, “What we witnessed on November 2, 2004 was a 59-million strong army of pinheads on parade ready to gamble away their social security so long as George Bush makes sure that boys kill each other, not kiss each other… that killing Muslims in Mesopotamia will make them less inclined to kill us in Manhattan…”

One pinhead spokesman of God, Rev. Bob Jones, disagreed with Palast’s observation. He wrote to the reappointed president , “… God has graciously granted America—though she doesn’t deserve it—a reprieve from the agenda of paganism. You have been given a mandate.… Don’t equivocate. Put your agenda on the front burner and let it boil. You owe the liberals nothing. They despise you because they despise your Christ. Honor the Lord, and He will honor you.”

Bush did not need Rev. Pinhead to tell him that. He knows what he is doing: “I know what I believe… I believe what I believe is right”; he believes he is the Burning Bush: “I trust God speaks through me”; and he believes he gets his marching orders from God: “God told me to strike at al Qaeda and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did…”   Bush does not have to listen or explain anything to anyone.

Thus, those who say Bush’s inaugural speech was hypocritical and bore very little resemblance to reality, miss the point. Last Thursday’s inaugural speech was addressed to God’s army, the 59 million pinheads who marched to the polls and voted for God’s candidate. It was not meant for non-believers.

The speech was the occasion for Bush to announce the good news to God’sarmy:   “America’s vital interests and our deepest beliefs are now one. ”

That same piece of good news was also bad news for those who continue to resist the Chosen One and his minions. Bush can’t wait—to use Rev. Jerry Falwell’s words—to “blow them all away, in the name of the Lord.”

God help us all… the real God, that is.
