Liberal Party Representative Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada was proclaimed winner of the Congressional race in the 4th District of Quezon late Friday night, (18 May) allowing him to serve a 2nd term in the forthcoming 14th Congress.
Congressman Tañada won in all ten towns covered by the 4th District of Quezon with an accumulated margin of 63,661 from his closest rival after garnering 94,967 votes. Arcie Malite, a three-termer Provincial Board Member who hails from the town of Lopez, got 31,306 votes. Lopez is the biggest town, with 19.5% of the total voting population of the Fourth District of Quezon.
During his first term as Congressman, he was the spokesman of the Liberal Party in Congress in the impeachment bid against the President. He likewise remained steadfast in his anti-Charter Change position. He took pains in educating his constituents on these issues whenever he can.
Erin, as he is fondly called by friends and family, is more excited to serve another term in Congress. He plans to push for electoral and education reforms as well as champion the cheaper medicines act, access to information bill and the creation of the trade representative office in the legislature. He is likewise pushing for the creation of Quezon del Sur, another province in Quezon composed of the 3rd and 4th Districts.
He vowed to continue his program to modernize agriculture, improve rural infrastructure, continuously train public school teachers to improve their teaching capacities, build more classrooms, provide more health care and scholarship programs while working closely with the local government officials and people’s organizations and women’s groups in all the ten towns.
Erin has been a consistent supporter of the advocacy of Action for Economic Reforms on economic issues, including equitable and efficient taxation, higher public spending for human development, and citizens’ right to information.
