Husband: You committed adultery with your boyfriend!
Wife: What’s your proof?
Husband: This picture, taken by my driver.Wife: Idiot! It doesn’t prove that I committed adultery. It proves that your driver is a peeping tom! – Shaman of Malilipot
A senator delivers a privilege speech alleging the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) was involved in an illegal phone-tapping operation called Project Lighthouse and Gloria Arroyo’s personal Justice Secretary responds with threats to go after the senator instead of investigating whether or not there was indeed such an illegal operation.
“We can have a tit-for-tat with the Senate. They don’t want to let sleeping dogs lie… Maybe even if I do not file any case, I can serialize all these testimonies and that will embarrass a lot of people already,” he warned.
One day every member of the Senate votes to investigate the illegal phone-taps, the next day four legal beagles of Gloria turn around and start barking, “You can’t use those tapes. It’s against the law to use tapes of an illegal wiretap to prove illegal wiretapping. You have to remove the corpus from corpus delecti.”
Does that make any sense? It does if you’re a Dick, a Johnny, or a Joker.
Mrs. Arroyo claims she’s too busy to be bothered by the probe but, in the same breath, the Malacañang boys say they will invoke “executive privilege” if push comes to shove.
Life would have been so much better, for Mrs. Arroyo and the entire country, if no one had tapped and taped her phone calls to Garci. The issue of stealing the election would have been dead and buried by now, not buried alive.
But, does Mrs. Arroyo even want to find out who instigated the phone-taps that caused all her problems? Is she going to let those eavesdropping vermin get away with it?
Unfortunately, a full-dress investigation of the illegal phone-taps will include authentication of the Garci tapes. And that’s the rub.
So, what happens now, do we all hold hands and join Mrs. Arroyo and her choir sing a few verses of the pop song, “Let Sleeping Dogs Lie?”
I have to bring it up againLet sleeping dogs lie, bring the subject to an end
Your sights are on history, leave it alone, let it beWater under the bridge, let it flow out to the sea
I said I was sorry, I know that I made a mistakeWon’t you please, again, give me a break
Won’t you get beyond it, I’ll be straightI’ll be good, watch and see, don’t go bringin’ it back to me
I don’t wanna talk about it, do you have to bring it up againLet sleeping dogs lie, bring the subject to an end
You got a little letter to grow that thought, but you don’t know what hurt youWell the first time I’d done that you had to catch me in the act
I said I was sorry, I know I made a big mistake. Won’t you please, again, won’t you give me a break
Won’t you get beyond it, I promise I’ll be straightDon’t be so suspicious, don’t go looking for a butDamned can we clear the air and get back to us
I’ll be good, watch and see, don’t keep bringin’ it back to meI said I was sorry, I know that I made a mistake, oh
Let sleeping dogs lie, let sleeping dogs lieLet sleeping dogs lie. – (Sheena Easton)
Are we going to let lying dogs sleep?
