JOB OPPORTUNITY: RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Action for Economic Reforms (AER) is looking for a Research Assistant to work with its Industrial Policy Core Team.


Building on AER’s work on macroeconomic and governance issues, the Industrial Policy Core Team seeks to examine the quality of the country’s growth and employment, and the different factors that are necessary for industrial deepening, inclusive growth and economic resiliency. It hopes to work for a constituency for industrial policy, particularly within the labor sector and segments of industry that see broader and more integrated sectors as a means for industrial deepening and commercial growth.


The Research Assistant will work with a composite team experienced in economics, political economy, law, industrial relations and development work. S/he will be supervised by the IP Core Team Coordinator, and will be trained in different aspects of research, policy analysis and political engagement.


Specifically, s/he is expected to:

  • Assist in a wide range of research and analysis tasks;

  • Provide data gathering, data mining, and related technical support for IP Core Team projects;

  • Assist in the preparation of presentation materials;

  • Participate/Attend/Assist in IP Core Team activities (including RTDs, roadshows and public presentations), and related AER events; and,

  • Perform related tasks and functions as may be assigned by the Team Coordinator.


The ideal applicant has a degree in Economics, with a solid grasp of development policy and political economy. A strong foundation in Statistics and Econometrics, or a clear capacity to be trained in these areas, will be an advantage. S/he is creative; can express her/himself well (orally and in writing); can interact with different audiences and political/social actors; is output-oriented; and can work under pressure with minimum supervision. S/he is computer literate, preferably skilled in statistical packages (or is able to learn them).


Fresh graduates, with strong collegiate research experience, are encouraged to apply.

AER offers a one-year contract, with reasonable compensation package inclusive of legislated benefits (13th month pay, Social Security System, Pag-IBIG Fund, and PhilHealth).
