Since this is Holy Week, I will follow the suggestion of de facto Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez to “also reflect on the state of our nation which is being torn asunder by selfish politicians and disgruntled elements who eat breakfast, eat lunch and dinner, scheming and plotting by fair means or foul, to topple the administration.”
“They seem to stop at nothing in order to attain their wicked designs. Unfortunately for them, people don’t buy their misplaced intentions,” he wrote.
Maybe he is right.
But, on the other hand, I see more and more people going to their rallies. There are a lot of new faces. Young faces specially. Does it mean evil is gaining the upper hand?
Mr. Gonzalez wrote, “How many Lozadas and other schemers of doom are behind the call for crucifixion, supposedly in the name of truth and transparency, when many witnesses refute their utterances, saying that they speak the untruth?”
Benjamin Abalos called Joey de Venecia a liar. Lito Atienza, Avelino Razon, and Manny Gaite called Jun Lozada a liar. Leo San Miguel called Joey, Jun, Dante Madriaga, and Benjamin Abalos liars.
Ben Abalos claimed his only involvement with ZTE was golfing-related, as president of Wack Wack Golf and Country Club. But Leo San Miguel told Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile that Abalos was very much involved in a non-golfing related meeting to discuss the competing NBN proposals at then Speaker De Venecia’s house. That makes Abalos a liar.
Now I’m confused as to who is good and who is evil, who is lying and who is not, and who is on whose side.
I continued reading Mr. Gonzalez’ Lenten message: “Lent is the season of forgiveness, exemplified by Jesus when He prayed to the Father while dying on the cross to forgive his tormentors for ‘they know not what they do.’”
Well that got me thinking. Is Mr. Gonzalez, through Jesus, telling us “ignorance of the law is an excuse?”
But what if they know what they do? Does that mean they cannot be forgiven and God will send them straight to hell?
I don’t know anything anymore.
Except that in this titanic struggle between the disgruntled and the satisfied neither side is going to heed Christ’s sermons on the Mount and on the Plain. Neither side is going to “turn the other cheek.”
The disgruntled are definitely not in a forgiving mood since they believe they have been forced by this administration to spread their cheeks over and over again.
So, whom do I turn to? Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales?
He wrote, “The history of salvation teaches us that the long road to freedom inevitably passes through the desert of purification and conversion.”
Should I abandon EDSA and follow the good uncle of Medy Poblador into the desert?
I’m really confused. I don’t know what to do.
I want to help someone being raped but I’m told “don’t do anything because the consequences will be worse, just let the rapist finish his thing and then we can put better locks on our doors so he doesn’t get in again.”
I would be in despair if I didn’t have Jesus.
Thank you, Jesus. I can take refuge in one of Your many beatitudes : “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
