Guiuan LGU and PH3D co-organize a Project Roadshow

GUIUAN, Eastern Samar – PH3D and the Municipality of Guiuan co-organized a roadshow on November 25, 2021at Residencia Vicente. The roadshow event was attended by around 36 participants consisting of Guiuan local government staff led by Mayor Annaliza Gonzalez-Kwan, some members of the Sangguniang Bayan, and faculty of SUC-partner Easter Samar State University-Guiuan Campus.

The main objectives of the roadshow were to discuss project updates and milestones of the municipalities’ data-driven disaster and risk reduction initiative and to strengthen the engagement among the local partners.

The Covid-19 pandemic, disasters brought about by climate change, and devolution brought about by the Mandanas-Garcia Ruling were among the top priorities identified by the Municipal Mayor. In addressing these issues, she emphasized the importance of evidence-based decisions to pave the way for efficient resource allocation.

“Data driven governance and development should not be an option for local government but rather it should be mandatory. We must recognize it as both a need and obligation for our people,” said Mayor Annaliza Gonzalez-Kwan.

During the roadshow, the PH3D team turned over equipment to the LGU to support technical requirements of the local data lab – a laptop pre-installed with relevant licensed programs and a printer.

“I’d like to express my thanks to AER for the outstanding support you have given to the municipality of Guiuan particularly, in capaciting our LGU towards data-driven governance,” said the Mayor in her opening message.

PH3D is a project of Action of Economic Reforms and is co-funded by the European Union. It seeks to champion data-driven development in the Philippines by using evidence-based and technology powered decision making to address local development issues.
