FORUM: “MIGRATION, DEVELOPMENT AND CONNECTIVITY”

Action for Economic Reforms (AER), Center for Migrant Advocacy (CMA) and the University of the Philippines School of Labor and Industrial Relations (UP SOLAIR) held a forum on “Migration, Development and Connectivity” on October 23, 2008 at the Isabelo delos Reyes Auditorium, UP SOLAIR Diliman, Quezon City.

Coinciding with the 2nd Global Forum on Migration and Development in Manila, the event served as an opportunity to discuss recent research on the economic and social dimensions of overseas employment.

We were honored to have Dr. Rene Ofreneo and Professor Ma. Catalina Tolentino, both of UP SOLAIR, as our speakers. Dr. Ofreneo, the executive director of the UP SOLAIR Center for Labor Justice, spoke on Labor Migration and Development. Professor Tolentino, on the other hand, presented her study on the Social Dimension of Migration: Maintaining Connectivity among OFW Families, which looks into how OFW families use communication technologies to link with their love ones abroad.
