ANOTHER FILIPINA ACADEMIC HAS BROUGHT HONOR TO FILIPINOS HERE AND IN THE UNITED STATES

She is Hazel Jean Lim-Malapit of Quezon City, who received the Simon Naidel Certificate of Recognition for “Outstanding Work in Economic Theory” of the American University in Washington, D.C. Prof. John Willoughby, chairman of the university’s department of Economics, presented the Certificate during the department’s annual luncheon held on May 2.


Hazel, who was selected for the award for consistently topping the comprehensive examinations on Economic Theory, will e completing her Ph.D. Doctorate in Economics at the American University.


She earned her M.A. in economics from the University of the Philippines-Diliman in 2001, where she was a recipient of scholarships from the Sanwa Bank and the Bank of Tokyo.


A former World Bank consultant, Hazel has undergone internship at the United Nations Headquarters in 2002. She is a member of the Management Collective of Action for Economics Reform (AER), a non-government organization.


Her proud parents are Armando L. Malapit, senior editor of the Philippines News Agency, and Josefina Malapit, a former branch manager of the UCPB.
