Sorsogon Province
Sorsogon is one of the six provinces in the Bicol Region. Its 15 towns boast of their many white sand beaches, beautiful mountains, and breathtaking lakes which are among the most popular tourist destinations in the country. The province is also popular for its produce of copra, abaca, pili, rice, root crops alongside its rich marine resources. Yet, the province believes that the people are its most valuable asset.
The provincial government of Sorsogon is among first responders to the call for Universal Health Care (UHC) Law implementation in the country. Committed to improving the quality of life of its people, the province pushes for a province-wide collection and updating of health data which will be the basis for health interventions and policy development in Sorsogon.
This initiative is part of the reforms in the health care system of the province to ensure compliance and consistency with the direction provided by the UHC Law. Their ultimate aspiration is to establish provincial-level integration of the health care delivery system. Part of this endeavor is to require both private and public health care facilities the same data submission requirements to address the gap in the province’s health data.
Sorsogon is a good ground for leveraging data for healthcare innovation due to its timely health sector transformation, commitment for data-driven health system and growing culture of data openness.
