Arteche
Arteche is a third-class municipality located at the northernmost part of Eastern Samar. It has 20 barangays, 10 of which are located in coastal areas. Primarily an agricultural community, residents largely benefit from coconut farming, crop production, and fishing.
The municipality is highly susceptible to natural disasters such as flooding, landslides, stormsurges, liquefaction, and earthquakes. These events cause massive damage to properties, destruction of livelihoods, economic losses, and casualties. Hence, disaster risk reduction and management are one of Arteche’s topmost priorities.
To improve the municipality’s disaster resilience, Arteche plans to organize data for faster identification of eligible beneficiaries to social welfare programs, and real-time disaster response monitoring. By having accurate and up-to-date data and information, Arteche will be better equipped to make reliable decisions for its people during emergencies.
Adopting evidence-based mechanisms is key to limiting the impact of catastrophic events on people, and ensuring that they do not erode the gains made from decades of development efforts.
