Pasig City
The City of Pasig is a first class, highly urbanized city composed of 30 barangays with two legislative districts found in the National Capital Region. It borders the cities of Marikina, Taguig, Mandaluyong and Makati and the municipalities of Pateros, Cainta and Taytay.
Pasig City is primarily residential and industrial. It has become increasingly industrialized following the development of business hubs in the area. The Ortigas Center is one of the top business districts of the country. The establishments currently operating in Pasig are mostly engaged in manufacturing, construction, mining and quarrying as well as electricity, gas and water generation, and food production.
The city government of Pasig has an impressive track record on poverty reduction. From the 2011 and 2017 Listahanan of the Department of Social Welfare and Development the estimated poverty incidence declined to 10% in 2017 from 44% in 2011.
Freedom of Information and Healthcare are two of the priority areas of the City of Pasig. Pasig City Ordinance No. 2018-37 or the Pasig Transparency Mechanism Ordinance made Pasig City the first LGU in Metro Manila to adopt an FOI policy. To lead the implementation of the City’s FOI program, the Ugnayan sa Pasig Unit or Pasig City’s Public Participation, Accountability and Transparency Unit was created.
In terms of Healthcare, under Mayor Sotto’s leadership, the city is strongly advocating for the full implementation of Universal Health Care. It has allocated about 21% of its 2020 annual budget for health and for the rationalization of the City Health Office.
