PHOTOS AND PRESENTATIONS: Inclusive Local Development: What Role for Sustainable Energy and Industrial Policy?

Last August 10, 2017, the Action for Economic Reforms Industrial Policy Team (AER IP Team), in partnership with  the Visayas State University Institure for Strategic Research and Development Studies (VSU ISRDS), National Economic and Development Authority Region VIII (NEDA VIII), and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), held a forum entitled “Inclusive Local Development: What Role for Sustainable Energy and Industrial Policy?” at the ISRDS Training Room, Visayas State University, Baybay, Leyte.

The first panel entitled Industrial Policy, Climate Change and Energy – Charting a Sustainable Future was moderated by Ms. Jenina Joy Chavez (Coordinator of the AER IP Team). Atty. Bonifacio Uy, the Regional Director of NEDA VIII, talked about the opportunities and challenges of Climate Change, Industrial Policy and Susntainable Energy for Eastern Visayas. Dr. Eduardo Mangaoang discussed the balance between industrial development and climate change mitigation. Engr. Roberto Verzola ended the session with a talk on Socially-Equitable Energy Transition for the Philippines.

Panel 2: Exploring Options for Sustainable Energy – Learning from Success in Localized Sustainable Energy Systems was moderated by Dr. Buenaventura Dargantes of the VSU ISRDS. Dr. Roberto Guarte discussed the Potentials for Alternative and Non-conventional Energy in Eastern Visayas. Ms. Danica Supnet of the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (iCSC) shared their group’s experiences on their sustainable energy projects. Lastly, Mr. Victor Chiong, convener of the Water Electricity Consumers Association of the Philippines, gave his take on the transition to renewable energy.
