In the aftermath of the passing away of Carlito Anonuevo in February 2007, then president of Action for Economic Reforms (AER), the AER management collective met on 8 May 2007 to elect a new set of executive officers.
Liberal Party Representative Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada was proclaimed winner of the Congressional race in the 4th District of Quezon late Friday night, (18 May) allowing him to serve a 2nd term in the forthcoming 14th Congress.
Hazel Jean Lim-Malapit, a member of the Management Collective of Action for Economics Reform (AER),received the Simon Naidel Certificate of Recognition for “Outstanding Work in Economic Theory” of the American University in Washington, D.C. Prof. John Willoughby, chairman of the university’s Department of Economics, presented the Certificate during the department’s annual luncheon held on May 2.
AER together with Economic Policy Reform and Advocacy (EPRA) and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) will be holding a public hearing on the proposed amendments to the Build-Operate-Transfer — Implementing Rules and Regulations (BOT-IRR) on May 10, 2007, Thursday, 1:00 pm-6:00 pm at the Garden Ballroom of EDSA Shangri-la Hotel, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.
A forum entitled “Freedom of Information Act: The Need to Push for Its Passage” was organized by Action for Economic Reforms together with Economic Policy Reform and Advocacy (EPRA) on January 26, 2007 at Discovery Suites, Pasig City. The forum was attended by around 80 participants from the civil society organizations, government agencies, media, academe and private individuals.
We are sad to announce the passing of our President, whom we more fondly called Tolits or Lito.
Lito was one of the founders of AER and an active member of the AER Management Collective, serving as its President since 2003. He was also a retired professor of Economics of the University of the Philippines in Los Banos, Laguna. Lito was a staunch advocate of economic justice and environmental protection.
AER joins Lito’s family, his other NGO affiliations, and his friends in grieving his death.
A requiem mass will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 6 PM at the Loyola Memorial Viewing Chapels in Marikina City. This is sponsored by the Tambuyog Development Center. A short program follows after the mass.
