Born under a bad sign

I didn’t think bad luck would strike so soon after my flat tire a week ago Sunday. But it did. I lost my car keys last Friday, at a family and friends golf tournament in Canlubang Country Club.

It’s no joke losing a car key that far away from civilization, not only is the long trip a hassle but the cost of fuel and toll fees for two cars is quite steep. And that’s assuming there is a friend or relative who would be sympathetic enough to lend a car to fetch my stranded vehicle. Thankfully, after a lot of explaining and begging, I was able to borrow my wife’s car.

White Knuckles

The Urban Dictionary defines “white knuckles” as, “to hold on to something with your hand(s) in a constant position so tight and long that blood rushes away from your knuckles and they become pale and sweaty.”

For example, “the student driver was white-knuckling the steering wheel.” Or “that new video game will give you white knuckles.” Or “the Ombudsgirl and her deputy have white knuckles trying to hold on to their desks.”

But this is not about the Ombudsgirl and her knuckles. This is about me on the Alabang Viaduct last Sunday white knuckling the steering wheel of my car.

Nuke ‘em

“Making plutonium and fission products just to boil water (which is what a nuclear reactor does) is not a prudent approach to electricity generation.” – Arjun Makhijani, nuclear scientist

(While I’m waiting for the trial of Ombudsgirl Merceditas Gutierrez)

ME: Are you for switching on the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant?

SEN. MIRIAM SANTIAGO: It is alarmist to say we cannot have a nuclear power plant because look at what happened in Japan. We have to wait for what will be the effect of the partial meltdown in Fukushima before we make any comments with respect to the pending bill*.

Who would’ve thunk?

The final score on the impeachment complaint against Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez was 210 YES, 47 NO and 4 ABSTAIN. More than 2/3 of the members of the House voted to impeach Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez.

Who would have thought it possible that so many of the Members of the House would vote to impeach Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez? Not I. Especially not after reports surfaced that the Iglesia Ni Kristo was throwing its weight behind Gutierrez.

The Rapture

I received this text message last weekend:

“It’s devastating watching CNN. We see many new earthquakes hitting Japan in great intensity since yesterday. We saw appalling scenes like villages being swept away and now the scary possible nuclear meltdown. Why is God showing His world rage n anger? God owns the world n His people 4get that He is Lord, Master n Creator of all. This is a Warning to LA, Frisco, NY of USA, England, China, Russia n the 1st World rich nations. We’re only in March n the rest of 2011 wil hv more disasters. Marians knew her msgs n people ignore God. We hv not seen the huge comet hitting the earth yet. God sees how the world is not pleasing Him. Middle east is self destructing n here at Congress they r tampering with LIFE like they r God. Shame! Beware Pro RH people! Pls PRAY n pls pass!”

Octopus Dei

It is now quite lawful for a Catholic woman to avoid pregnancy by a resort to mathematics, though she is still forbidden to resort to physics or chemistry. – H. L. Mencken

Emboldened by the statement of Atty. Louie Sison that the anti-contraceptive ordinance passed by the Ayala Alabang village council would become a model for barangays nationwide, the leader of an anti-RH Bill group called a pre-mobilization meeting with his troops.
